For anyone interested, my hiatus will continue until at least next Wednesday. We're moving on Tuesday and whatever weird arithmetic that went on in my head to determine when to call the cable company to hook things up in the new house was totally off. They're not coming until next Wednesday, so I really doubt I'll be posting again until then. I'll also probably be totally out of it as far as my reading of other blogs.
One night while we were painting Chrissy exhaustedly said, "I need a montage." Like they sang in Team America: (Lyric site w/ tons of pop-ups so don't click through, it's just a blog courtesy thing.)
The hours approaching, just give it your best
You got to reach your prime.
That’s when you need to put yourself to the test,
And show us a passage of time,
Were going to need a montage (montage)
Oh it takes a montage (montage)
Sure a lot of things happing at once,
With mind, everyone what’s going on (what’s going on?)
And when every shot you show a little improvement
Just Show it or it will take to long
that’s called a montage (montage)
Oh we want montage (montage)
And anything that we want to know, from just a beginner to a pro,
You want a montage (montage)
even rocky had a montage (montage)
(Montage…montage)
Anything that we want to know, from just a beginner to a pro,
You need a montage (montage)
Oh it takes a montage (montage)
Always fade out in a montage,
If you fade out, it seem like more time
Has passed in a montage,
Montage
She right; since we've closed on the house last month, our lives have taken on a quality of a Kevin Bacon movie montage. (Think She's Having a Baby and/or He Said, She Said.) I beleive both of those movies went to the well for the old "we're moving in together" montage.
You know, the packing, the painting (with requisite paint fight that leads to coitus--for the record it doesn't work like this in real life), picking out furniture where the woman gushes over a piece while Bacon scowls with his arms folded across his chest, followed by Bacon doing most of the heavy lifting of said piece of furniture, etc. And like the song says, all of this is over and done with in about 3 1/2 minutes with Bacon and his co-star living in their cool new pad without actually screaming at each other at the top of their lungs because that's the only form of communication they're capable of.
In my reality the last few weeks has consisted of going to work, coming home, eating pizza, going to at least two of the following: Lowe's, Home Depot, Home Depot Expo, or Ace, driving the 20 minutes to the new house and working, painting, cleaning, etc. until about 10pm, then back to the apartment to shower, sleep, and start it all over again the next day. One night when we were driving to the house, "Don't Stop Me Now" came up on the iPod and we settled on it as our Kevin Bacon movie montage soundtrack.
I'm a shooting star leaping through the sky
Like a tiger defying the laws of gravity
I'm a racing car passing by like Lady Godiva
I'm gonna go go go
There's no stopping me
I'm burnin' through the sky yeah
Two hundred degrees
That's why they call me Mister Fahrenheit
I'm trav'ling at the speed of light
I wanna make a supersonic man out of you
Don't stop me now I'm having such a good time
I'm having a ball
Don't stop me now
If you wanna have a good time just give me a call
Don't stop me now ('Cause I'm having a good time)
Don't stop me now (Yes I'm havin' a good time)
I don't want to stop at all
Naturally, it's totally dopey, but so his having to paint your new house and allowing it to devolve into a paint fight like Bacon consistently does. The song captures the determination and exicitement of getting our house ready...uh...if life were a cheesey '80s movie.
Most thankfully though, my father-in-law knows how to do almost everything that we needed to do in the house and with my dad as the Luigi to his Mario they did a lot of work during the day. I mean a lot of work. We couldn't have done it without them. I love those guys. [As an Italian-American, I think I just offended myself with the Nintendo reference.]
So until such time that I have internet access again, later.
Oh and I have some minor dental stuff going on that should be taken care of this Wednesday just make sure that this that much more of an annoying week.
