Good post. The only correct term for somebody peacefully opposing Mugabe is "dissident." It is an honorable word, reminding us of the brave people who fought the Soviet Union with ideas. It is ridiculous to describe these people as "critics."

Separately, may I say that you have "recently read" an extremely impressive group of books. I am embarrassed to admit that I haven't read any of them. I think I'm going to buy a few of them...

Rob A.

If you mean the list on the right "Last 5..." then yes I've been reading more and blogging less. If you mean the "Relatively Recent.." list on my About page then no. Some of those books are ones I'd read prior to starting the blog in 12/03.

But then "For Whom the Bell Tolls" was a Christmas present I got...last year. It's taken me over a year to read it. I'm about 2/3 through and don't really have any plans to pick it up soon.

But Jack, with all your globetrotting you've read a lot too. And you have the energy to type out sections every now and then which is commendable.
