(Via Ace.) While Slublog irons out exactly how a Carnival of the Playlists would actually work, I'll throw up this list.
It's basically a "Top Ten List of Songs That I'm Into (Over the Last Week or So)." They're not in any particular order however.
- "She's a Jar"-Wilco.
- This is an older Wilco song, but as a service to my readers I'll point you to their website were they've put up a free EP. This includes a more rockin' version of "Camera." A more subdued version was on Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. The YHF version also is spelled with a "K." For some reason.
- "Wildflowers"-Tom Petty
- From the album of the same name. This is the song that I danced with my mother to for our Mother of the Groom dance at my wedding. "Run away, let your heart be your guide." I can already hear the "aaawwww"s.
- "Head On"-Jesus & Mary Chain
- I think this was the first song I actually purchased from iTunes.
- "Be My Number Two"-Joe Jackson
- I never really cared for Joe Jackson but I'm starting to come around. I find this song to be exceptionally mean. Lyrics here. I didn't get any pop-ups but you never know with these stupid lyrics sites, so be forewarned.
- "We're the Same"-Matthew Sweet
- Sorry, but this is another wedding-related song. For our favors we burned cds with 17 songs and one of our graphic designer friends did the cover art. This song was on the CD.
- "Dog"-Ben Folds
- A newish song on one of his recent EPs. Though there's a phone conversation that's sort of annoying towards the end. I think he's talking to his wife. She calls him a "kumquat."
- "Adelaide"-Old 97s
- This song and a bunch of other (older) tunes are available for free on the band's website.
- "Expressway to You're Heart"-The Blues Brothers
- One of the great things about having an iPod is that it has allowed me to reacquaint myself with a ton of cds that I haven't listened to in a while. The Blues Brothers Definitive Collection being one of them. Really, the whole thing is amazing. Especially when you realize it's Ackroyd and Belushi. This collection alone has caused me to refrain from making the jokes like, "What the hell is Dan Ackroyd doing in the 'We Are the World' video?"
- "Wash Away"-Joe Purdy
- This song was featured in one of the early episodes of ABC's Lost. Chrissy and I went nuts trying to figure out who it was. The Lost message boards were going nuts too, until someone finally figured it out. Purdy is an excellent singer/songwriter type with a bit of a country edge. He has also has several free songs available on his website. Check him out. Seriously.
- "Live Free"-Son Volt
- I can't let Jeff Tweedy be the only Uncle Tupelo alum to get on this list, so here's one from Jay Farrar's Son Volt. I don't know that Farrar's Uncle Tupelo songs were better than Tweedy's but I definitely like the former's voice better. If you don't know that I'm talking about go here.
So there you go.
(I had been meaning to put up a post like this but being a total slug I needed a goose. Thanks to Slublog.)
Isn't it "Expressway to Fenway"? If you like Joe Jackson, listen to some Squeeze. They go great together...

"Expressway to Fenway", too funny. Too bad we never actually made it to Fenway.
