Tom Brokaw's replacement, Brian Williams, introduces himself to the blogosphere.
When a fellow panelist mentioned that bloggers had had a big impact on the reporting on Election Day, Williams waved that point away by quipping that the self-styled journalists are "on an equal footing with someone in a bathroom with a modem."
First of all, this doesn't even make sense.
Williams really needs to get out more. (Well, probably "stay in" more.) Even though he was answering a question about bloggers' influence on the election, he shouldn't be so quick to dismiss the role they play in media coverage today. By "waving" it away he looks like a dinosaur instead of the injection of "new blood" NBC's probably going for.
He must have missed the job Patterico did in dismantling editorials from the NY Times and the LA Times the last couple of days. He also definitely has not read Donald Sensing's dissection of a WaPo op-ed.
You know, I always sort of liked Williams too.
