Oh, I Thought They Were With Us

I know I'm beating this UNSCUM thing into the ground but this is a pretty BFD. From the The Scotsman. (I dropped the link in the comments over at Friends of Saddam-see previous post.)

Of greatest concern is that UN officials may have been directly cashing in, or at least turning a blind eye.

"Every person within the UN knew what was going on, irrespective of whether they benefited," Mr Hankes-Drielsma said.

He believes investigations will show that France and Russia, both staunch opponents of the Iraq war, were the greatest beneficiaries of the scheme.


That last sentence is the reason why this is so important. France and Russia cut our legs out from under us at the Security Council and now it's becoming even clearer why. All the talk of failing to work with "our allies" is proving to be bullshit, we tried to work with them, they just preferred to do business with Saddam. Now matter how you break it down, they do not hold the moral highground in this scenario.

With allies like that...who needs the French? No really, who needs the French?
